Paquito

A last minute decision, I went to Esplanade to watch Paquito D'Rivera with New York Voices as part of the Mosaic Festival. This decision only arrived 45 minutes before the show started, and I was lucky to get a taxi that rushed there.

Easy Singapore Gumbo

This recipe is adapted from Gumbo Pages
This recipe is adapted to suit the availability of ingredients here, and to suit my unwillingness to spend five hours making gumbo broth.

Breast Milk Cheese

Ever since I went to France to learn french ten years ago, I changed from a cheese-hater into a cheese-lover. How could I not! Everyday for three weeks my host parents (Les Delforges de Reims) indulged me with french food, and closed the lengthy dinner session (which can last up to two hours) with a plate of various cheese, consisted of different kinds of cheese, from Camembert, Brie, swiss cheese which has holes in it, blue cheese, smelly cheese, etc. It was quite challenging, but if I want to learn about the french, I gotta eat what they eat. Until now, my favorite is Camembert Cheese which should be slightly aged.

Dream Tag

I got tagged by Yanti to reveal my five dreams. Well, since this website is owned by my whole family, I guess the tag is also applicable to the other members of the family.

Seats for the needy

Late afternoon today, I took MRT to Jurong East while carrying Noe in the babybjorn carrier. Noe was really getting heavy for a carrier! It was unusually crowded for that time of the day. I walked towards the seat intended for "people who need it more than you do". There are two students there, from one of the prestigious junior college. I stood right in front of them. Apparently those two students were a bit annoyed by my presence, hence they were trying hard to avoid any eye contact with me. Hmm.

A while later, I took out my phone, which happened to be a camera phone, to check out my schedules in the calendar. Moments later, the two students seemed panicked, and once the train stopped at the next station they quickly got out of the train.

I overheard them saying:

Jingle Acara TV Indonesia Jaman Dulu

Seputar Indonesia itu lagunya judulnya "Betawi" oleh Bhaskara '86. Yang main biola luluk purwanto.

Baru saja lagu jingle berita programa dua TVRI tahun 80-an dulu terngiang2 di kuping gue.

Google Fridge

As a mom and the cook in the house, I constantly think on how technology and internet can help daily chores at home. There are so many kinds of technology out there, but they are rarely integrated as a seamless system that helps everyday tasks. There are two possibilities when someone is thinking about what to cook for dinner. Either he look at the cookbook then buy food ingredients to make it, or he look at the fridge and think of something that can be made out of whats available. How often do you wish that you can keep track of whats inside your fridge? No matter how organized my fridge is, I keep forgetting what in it. As a result, I couldnt plan my shopping properly, and ended up buying duplicate items. Sometimes, I ended up not cooking something, thinking that I did not have the ingredients, whereas in fact I could have found it stuck at the back of my fridge. I wish my daily life could be more organized. So, lets just daydream a bit here. And lets hope google would want to take these ideas on board.

GBuy

Tinker Tailor made me realize that the name of the new Google payment system - GBuy - would be inappropriate and difficult to pronounce, particularly in Singapore, Malaysia, or among Hokkien-speaking people.

Worst flu

This week I was down with my worst flu ever since I left Indonesia (2001 that is). I started to have a sore throat on Monday early evening, then I had a sudden onset of a really bad fever later at night. WARNING!!! Don't continue to read this entry if you're easily disgusted because I'm gonna be quite graphic in describing what happened.
