indrani.net is the family website of Indi and Rani: Indi + Rani makes indrani. It began as our wedding website in 2002, and in 2003 it became a family blog, where we wrote about our days, our travels and our boys. In 2008 it was listed among the ten most popular English blogs in Indonesia. Today it holds more than twenty years of stories, photos, travelogues, videos and songs, and in 2026 we brought them all back together here.
Indi
Indi plays conga and trumpet in our band KARIB Gembira, and these days he also sings with a ukulele in his hands. Tennis is his sport: you can watch his backhand and serve on video, and read how Rani’s support helped him win.
He loves photography, and he writes about whatever catches his curiosity, from a family pilgrimage to Cuba to the story behind the phinisi, Indonesia’s traditional sailboat.
Rani
Rani is the master planner of the house. She plays the piano in KARIB Gembira, and at family parties she picks up the accordion, sometimes for a duet with a violin. After two kids she started ballet, and she went on to take ballet exams.
With Indi she sings as Indrani, the two of them at home. One evening in 2026 they shared six songs, five of them by the Beatles. Rani also wrote much of the travelogue of our journey through Mexico, Cuba and California.
Noe
Noe (Kainoe) is our first son, and the early years of this blog are full of him. Here are his first speech, his first haircut (a job for a team of three) and his first step, which Rani saw with her own eyes. He swung a junior racquet at his first tennis practice on a clay court.
He grew up to dance. In 2022 he performed the Siegfried variation from Swan Lake at the Masterpiece International Ballet Competition, and his team, One Dance Asia, won the contemporary ballet category there. In our family band he plays the bongo.
Kei
Kei (Keilani) is our second son, and his name is Hawaiian for “glorious chief”. The story of his first flight as a baby is here, written by Rani the day she realized the second child had barely made it onto the blog.
In our family band he plays the bass, and softball is his sport. With his big brother he rode the flying fox at his grandparents’ home.
Kona
Kona is our golden retriever and the newest member of the family. He has energy to spare: come along on a Sunday morning run with him. He has taken the ferry to St John’s Island with us, and he was one of 145 golden retrievers at a big gathering of the breed.
Together
On Christmas Day 2023 the four of us played “Imagine” together: Rani on piano, Noe on bongo, Kei on bass and Indi on ukulele.
Our travels fill many pages here: a day-by-day story of Europe in 2004, trips across Southeast Asia, and Mexico, Cuba and California in 2006 and 2007. There is also a magazine article on traveling Austria on a budget.
Some stories are for family and friends only. To read them, sign up and tell us who you are.
